EDUCATION RUINS A SLAVE by Steven Skelley
Education Ruins A Slave (with lyrics) by Steven Skelley.
EDUCATION RUINS A SLAVE is a very important song to me. I composed it to honor Frederick Douglass and to share his timeless message. Frederick Douglass was born into slavery. He was separated from his mother and put to work at the age of six. Through this horrid reality, he realized that education was the key to freedom - physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually. He escaped from slavery and used his epiphany to fight against the disgusting American legality of owning humans.
When I read Douglass' words, "education ruins a slave," it sparked within me the words, "because freedom rides the road that knowledge paves, understanding comes unlocking chains."
Hugs,
Steven
