The Little Things That Make Life Better by Steven Skelley Band

The Little Things That Make Life Better   By Steven Skelley   A child in his mother’s arms smiled at me today I won't overlook all the little things that make life better   I felt the sun above as it warmed my face today I won't overlook all the little things that make life better   The aroma of freshly cut grass wafted across my nose today I won't overlook all the little things that make life better   One of my favorite songs played on the radio today I won't overlook all the little things that make life better   I saw someone open a door for an elderly woman today I won't overlook all the little things that make life better   I went to sleep knowing that I did my best to be a good man today I won't overlook all the little things that make life better   Little things make life better Little things make life better      Copyright 2025 Steven Skell...

Older Than My Mother by Steven Skelley Band

Older Than My Mother   I was born one day The natural way The third of four children she bore She was still young and strong Singing magical songs Her soft touch warmed my soul to the core   At first it was all fun Sharing popsicles in the sun Giggling at the mess on my face We kids tried to run when she’d lick her thumb No spit bath we’d scream - she gave chase   But the years weren’t kind And she struggled to find Money for our food and our rent I hugged her when she cried but something broke inside Her magic spark shockingly spent    At age forty five She stopped being alive Death left us just her empty shell How could she be gone She was our night’s dawn We pleaded with heaven and hell   It has been forty years Since my funeral tears I’m much older than she got to be As I close my eyes I see her arise And I say hi Mom it’s me    We walk hand in hand Or sometimes jus...

A Butterfly To Be By Steven Skelley   I knew as a child I was born to observe They saw straight lines I saw the curve   I knew as a child I was not the same They fought for position I hated that game   I knew as a child I had to make art They saw with their eyes I saw with my heart   I knew as a child There was more to me They saw a caterpillar I saw a butterfly to be      Copyright 2021 Steven Skelley   I am certain that there are many, many people just like me who felt as if they didn't fit in with the other kids their age as we were growing up. There are probably many reasons for this to be. In my case, instead of being satisfied and drawn to ball sports, I was drawn to reading voraciously, consuming the popular music that my parents sang along to in the car, and trying to share my emotions through writing. Did you feel different as a child and maybe even now? Then this song is for u...

I am  certain that there are many, many people just like me who felt as if they didn't fit in with the other kids their age as we were growing up. There are probably many reasons for this to be. In my case, instead of being satisfied and drawn to ball sports, I was drawn to reading voraciously, consuming the popular music that my parents sang along to in the car, and trying to share my emotions through writing. Did you feel different as a child and maybe even now? Then this song is for us, you and me. I titled it A Butterfly To Be.
